AllianceHealth Durant is Vital to Southeastern Oklahoma

Delivers essential medical services and broad impact to the larger community

Durant, OK – Over the course of 2023, AllianceHealth Durant played a vital role helping people get well and live healthier at more than 140,000 patient encounters at its hospital and network of AllianceHealth Medical Group physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care.

At more than 26,000 emergency department visits each year, lifesaving medically necessary care is provided for all patients regardless of their ability to pay. Members of the community who cannot fully afford their medical care are provided deep discounts or even charity care and the hospital has resources to help them secure medications and medical support devices. Last year, AllianceHealth Durant provided more than $55 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable.

“AllianceHealth Durant plays a vital role in our community around the clock, every day of the year to help people get well and live healthier,” said Shelton Williams, chief executive officer for AllianceHealth Durant. “Regardless of holidays or challenging weather, our dedicated team of clinicians and caregivers are using their skills, experience and compassion in service to the patients who are counting on us.”

Other support for social determinants of health in the community include financial donations for charitable organizations such as Colton’s Main Street Run, the United Way Be a Hero Run, and Red River Ford Food Drive, and acts of service such as the Jars of Love drive collecting peanut and other nut butters for the Hands of Hope food bank.

AllianceHealth Durant applies its resources to medical services, facilities and technologies that patients want to access close to home. AllianceHealth Durant’s Acute Stroke Ready designation demonstrates the hospital’s readiness to provide timely, quality stroke treatment when minutes matter. The hospital’s surgical team has performed more than 3,000 minimally-invasive robotic surgeries, and hopes to intrigue the next generation of healthcare providers by hosting the Durant Middle School Robotics classes to the hospital to experience using the robot, named Ninja.

Capital improvements last year included the addition of 3D mammography and a nuclear medicine system, and turnaround time for lab results has been reduced with new laboratory equipment. Updates to the hospital’s first floor create a more welcoming environment for visitors and patients. Civic resources and services are supported by AllianceHealth Durant’s payment of more than $4.9 million in taxes and the payroll of more than $47 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services.

Workforce development remains a priority and strong relationships with local nursing programs and the physician residency program. Investments are being made to help team members achieve their personal and professional goals through assistance with student loan repayments, as well as tuition reimbursement.
